Resources for using Lego NXT Robots

Robotics provide endless opportunities for problem solving. The Lego Mindstorms robotic kits are brilliant and moderately cost effective resources for students to develop their problem solving abilities while applying learning to a variety of curriculum areas. Whether it is:
  • mathematics - calculating the perimeter of the wheels to have the robot move an exact distance (see activity one)
  • science - applying theory of gears and ratio to create the fast robot for a 10 second standing start sprint (see activity six)
  • Information technology - developing an understanding of object orientated programming, properties and attributes, loops and conditional statements

I use my robots with all my classes Year 9 to 13, but they have applications for students who are much younger or older.
